Phonics Excellence - Delivering Systematic Synthetic Phonics (Leaders and Teachers)

Outline

This course aims to support leaders and teachers in delivering systematic synthetic phonics and creating a phonics culture.

Description

The OfSTED Framework for September 2019 says:

  • in primary schools, inspectors will pay particular attention to the extent to which school leaders create experts in the teaching of reading.

  • they will consider how well staff know their school’s chosen systematic synthetic phonics programme, and use assessment and coaching to ensure that children are provided with the support they need to succeed. This training will support the teaching of systematic synthetic phonics, looking at expectations year group to year group ensuring that there is progression for learners.

Additionally, the course will cover strategies for the identification of children who are struggling and approaches to rapid intervention to ensure that extensive gaps are not created. An exemplar session and progression of a phonics unit will be provided.
