This training covers both theory and practice and what to do when children are stuck. It will be delivered by teachers experienced in the teaching of phonics and early reading and writing across the range of ability; introduces skills and techniques which will support children to meet the requirements of the phonics screening check.
This is the second of two sessions which cover the same elements but with slightly changing emphasis [the alternate session is scheduled for 8th November 2018]. The first session is particularly relevant to teachers new to the teaching of phonics in Reception and Year 1; the second session will be particularly relevant to teachers who will administer the phonics screening test.
Decide which of the sessions most meets your requirements ~ there will be no need to attend both sessions unless you feel it will be useful to revisit some of the material.
There will be an overview of phonic theory and effective approaches will be discussed. Assessment will be covered along with the phonics screening check. Implications of the check and appropriate interventions for pupils who are falling behind will be considered.
You will be more confident in teaching and assessing phonics and narrowing gaps and have a wider vision for phonics in your school, a clearer understanding of when and how to intervene to improve outcomes for children. There will be opportunities to ask questions and resolve specific issues of concern to you
